What is Book a Street Artist?
Book a Street Artist is an online platform on which artists offer their artistic services and clients can search, request and book artists for their occasion.
We started Book a Street Artist a few years back in Lisbon, Portugal. While observing and talking to artists in the streets of Baixa and Chiado we realized two things: many of them are unbelievably talented, and at the same time overlooked and undervalued. Since then, we are dedicated to empowering artists and making their art universally accessible for anyone to book them. We believe that talent should be valued independently from the context it is presented in.
Why do you use the phrase "One love" as part of your communications?
One love refers to the universal love and respect expressed by all people for all people, regardless of creed, gender, or color. It embodies Book a Street Artist’s mission to bring color into a world that seems to be going grey. Whether it is the physical color of expressive paint against a concrete wall, or the warmth brought to one’s heart while connecting with music. We strongly believe that art is the shortest way to people’s heart no matter their origins, social background...
What can art lovers and artists expect from working with Book a Street Artist?
Our company grew out of a passion for art and talent. We are motivated by the urge to help promote artists and their amazing projects, who don’t follow the main stream and continuously innovate. Our core business is an online booking platform. Beyond showcasing the artists’ work on our website, we offer a match-making service to our clients, thereby recommending them the ideal artist from our curated portfolio for their occasion. More than that, we are a curator, facilitator, and promoter of art and talent engaging in different activities.
Our 3 main values that guide us along the way are : Transparency, Technology, and Trust; We want to use technology to empower indie artists. We want to build long term relationships with our artists and clients based on trust, that’s why we’re always 100% transparent with both parties. By working with us, you’re not only supporting us as a company, you’re also strengthening an exciting community of indie artists.
Where is Book a Street Artist located, what countries, and cities?
The Book a Street Artist office is located in Kreuzberg, the creative heart of Berlin. However, due to its history with Portugal, we also have a strong presence in that country. As we’re growing on a global scale, you can find us worldwide. We grow with the motto that talent and creativity have no borders.
What are the company's plans for the future?
As an online company built for artists regardless their type of art, or origin, we aim to grow into other regions serving more artists and art-lovers on a global level.
In general, we believe that in a world where robots, AI, and algorithms are taking over traditional human tasks, artistic talent and creativity are the only traits that will make us different from "smart" machines. At Book a Street Artist we will be ready to provide artists the right tools and conditions to make a prosperous living out of their artistic and creative talent.
2. APPLYING AS AN ARTIST
Do I have to pay to be part of the portfolio?
No. Being on the platform is free for all of our artists.
How do I apply to be part of the portfolio?
Go to our “for artists” page to get to know us better and if you like our concept, click on the “apply now” button. Once you are there, please fill in your information and tell us where we can see your work. Please bear in mind that your portfolio should be detailed enough to give us insight into all the services you can provide. It should include quality material that you’ll be able to use on our platform.
How do you choose which artists can be part of it?
The following points show our criteria for accepting artists into our portfolio:
The geographical area.
The demand for your type of work.
The material you provide to represent your work.
Your past experience with clients.
Please bear in mind that these criteria are there to ensure that every artist on the portfolio gets the opportunity to receive requests on a regular basis.
When will I know if my application was successful or not?
Due to a high demand and influx of new applications on a daily basis, wee review applications every few weeks.
My application got rejected can you explain me why?
In general, we will email you a clear explanation. If you are still not sure or would like to know more about our decision, you can always call or write to us. You can also join our extended community to stay informed about future opportunities for artists.
3. BOOKING ON BOOK A STREET ARTIST
A. Searching on the website
What should I enter as a keyword?
The easiest way to find the right artist is to enter the type of art (visual, performance, music etc.) and the name of the city.
If you’re looking for a performer, you can search for aerial, juggling, magic, close-up, show, rope, silk, hoop, etc.
I don't have time to search. What should I do?
Relax! Just send us an inquiry with all your details or chat with our bot regarding your needs. As soon as we can we’ll get back to you with our suggestions!
What if I don't know which kind of artist I want to book?
You can always ask us for support and we will happily advise you! Otherwise you can just try to find your artist by putting the keywords that come to your mind into our search bar, when you think about your event or artistic moment. E.g.: “Wall Art Berlin, or Musician for living room concert, romantic music band, etc.”.
Do you organize events?
We are not an event agency but we work with fantastic partners. Just reach out! Also, we offer project management. We can be your contact person to communicate with and coordinate one or more artists you have booked for your occasion. We can also take care of organizational issues such as finding a location, hotel bookings, setting up on location, etc. - You can always ask us about additional fees.
What if I can’t find an artist in your portfolio that suits my occasion/event?
When this occurs, you can contact us. We have a large network of artists globally that don’t have a public profile. We can set up the connection and forward the inquiry to them. This would mean there’s an extra possibility to arrange a match!
What if I don’t find a suitable artist in my area inside your portfolio?
You can always ask a quote for artists that don’t live in the requested area. We also have a bunch of artists that are willing to travel. We will put you in contact with your favorite artist and find an agreement to realize your artistic moment, be it for your next company event, your magical wedding, or to give a new life to your walls at home. Apart from that, we have a huge network of artists that do not have a public profile so we can forward your inquiry to other artists that might match your wishes.
Are your artist offering customized work?
A lot of our artists do this! We have many graffiti artists that do commission work, musicians that play cover songs on request and performers that can do tailor-made shows, etc. Nevertheless, we highly recommend you to give the artist as much creative freedom as possible so they can offer their full artistic potential.
I found an artist on the website. How do I know if he/she's available?
To get in contact with the artist, just click on the ‘get a free quote’ button.
How long do I have to wait for an answer from the artist?
Our artists are selected for their professionalism and responsiveness so you usually receive an answer within 24 hours. Although, this may vary from case to case.
When do I know that my booking is confirmed?
Once you are in touch with the artist, you will receive an offer at some point. You can then confirm the offer on our platform and your artist is booked! Right afterwards, you will receive a booking confirmation by email.
Do I have to pay to book an artist through you?
In order to maintain the quality of our services and grow as a platform we usually charge a commission on every booking. However, due to the Corona crisis and all its consequences for the artistic scene, we decided to waive our commission on bookings that result from requests by private people, small businesses and non-profit organizations forwarded by us to our artists.
Requests for more complex projects will be forwarded to our project managers. In this case, we will always inform you about any types of fees upfront.
Do I have to pay to get a quote?
No, you don’t have to pay to get a quote. It’s part of our free service to recommend you an artist and put you in touch with him. Depending on your request we forward it directly to an artist or give you first a small selection of artists that could work for your inquiry.
Where do I find the artist's contact?
As soon as the artist confirms availability for your inquiry you can get in touch with the artist on our platform. You can communicate with the artist in our chat or get their phone number for a call if preferred. At the latest when the booking is confirmed you will get his contact details in the booking confirmation that will be sent to you by mail.
Can I give the artist special instruction?
After you’ve sent an inquiry to the artist and know they are interested, you get the possibility to chat with the artist through our platform! You can start discussing any specific instructions, requirements and get into greater detail to come to an agreement together.
How can I pay the booking?
You will pay the total booking value directly to the artist you book. After confirming the booking in our platform, you will be put in touch with the artist directly to arrange the most convenient payment method for both. Is there any cancellation fee?
|If you need to cancel the booking, please refer to the booking cancellation policy chosen by the artist (you'll find it in your booking confirmation). The artist will have chosen one of the following three policies: |
|- up to 30 days before the booking date, there is no cancellation fee.|
- between 30 and 7 days before the booking date, the cancellation fee is 10% of the artist fee (incl. taxes).
- less than 7 days before the booking date, the cancellation fee is 30% of the artist fee (incl. taxes).
|- up to 30 days before the booking date, the cancellation fee is 10% of the artist fee (incl. taxes). |
- between 30 and 7 days before the booking date, the cancellation fee is 30% of the artist fee (incl. taxes).
- less than 7 days before the booking date, the cancellation fee is 50% of the artist fee (incl. taxes).

- less than 90 days before the booking date, the cancellation fee is 100% of the artist fee (incl. taxes).
|Any advance payments to the artist for extra costs (e. g. material, transportation, etc.), can only be refunded to you if they have not been spent.|
When do I have to pay?
Generally artists can be paid up to 7 days after the booking is confirmed. However, some artists may need down payments before the job is done to cover transport or material costs.
What if the artist doesn't show up or gets sick?
You can contact Book a Street Artist and we will get on finding a replacement immediately. If we can’t find a replacement for your artist, we guarantee you your money back.
What sort of data do we collect?
First things first, we’re not evil. You have nothing to worry about when it comes to giving us your personal data. We will never look at what else you do on the Internet and we don't link together complicated SQL tables to create personalized profiles. Our only intention is to better our platform and empower our artists and make their work universally accessible.
That being said, we do track:
Non-personalized data via Google Analytics: How much time does a user spend on a page? How often are inquiries sent? And how many visitors come to our site?
Via our Inquiry sheet, we do collect sensitive data if you consent to it. This includes things such as: your full name, your email and phone number.
Our Drift bots are also hard at work, they record all kinds of data depending on what you chose to share with them, so it can include sensitive information like names and locations.
When you call or email us asking for a quote on our hottest graffiti artist or any other moment, we will create an inquiry for you which holds your contact information, etc.
If you apply to us as an artist we will ask you for some basic details so we can check you out for real ourselves. This will include name, email, phone number and a link to your work.
Once you have become one of our portfolio artists, you will get to know our negotiation tool. This stores data depending on your conversations with your client, therefore this will also include sensitive data like prices, names, locations and your bank details.
What do we do with the data we collect?
Now while it might seem like we track a lot of your data, please know that we do not process this information in any way that we have not agreed. We never have and never will sell your data to third parties. If you give us your email, whether as a client or as an artist, it will only be used to stay in touch and log your profile, and that is it.
The data that we do work with and study tends to be the non-personalized aggregated data that Google analytics collects on our average users. We try and find out: where you lose interest in our page? Are there features that would make life easier for you? Are the tools we provide for our artists being used? And being used correctly?
These are the kind of questions we use to analyze the collected data. Everything we do aims to empower our artists and their services so that their clients can continue to have amazing experiences with them.
How long will we keep your data?
If you are an artist, we will keep a record of your data for as long as you continue to use the platform. This is simply because we need this info to operate your page and connect you to your potential clients. If you ever decide you no longer want to be part of the Book a Street Artist experience email us at [email protected] and we can assist you in deleting your profile. If you do so, your data will also be deleted within 30 days.
If you are or have been a client of Book a Street Artist, our data policy works the same way. As long as you continue to search for artists on our platform we will continue to store your data. This is so that we can continue to help you find the perfect moment. Once the process is completed and we have had a chance to ask you for some feedback, we will get rid of any personally identifiable information within 30 days.
