Expert tip
Finding the right mural painter for your brand
One of the most common mistakes companies make when commissioning a mural is assuming they need a graffiti artist. In reality, the best mural for your space might come from a graphic designer, a fine artist, or an illustrator — someone with no street art background whatsoever, but with the technical ability to work at scale and the professional experience to work within a brand.
My tip: define the outcome before you define the artist type.
My 3 recommendations for commissioning a mural:
- Define the space and its purpose — is this a reception area that needs to impress clients, a canteen that needs energy, a facade that needs visibility? The function of the space determines the style of the artwork. Bring measurements, photos, and any architectural drawings you have.
-
Decide how much of your brand should be in the work — some clients want strict brand guidelines followed to the letter. Others want the artist to interpret the brand freely. Both are valid. The clearest brief is one that defines the boundaries and leaves the creative decisions within those boundaries to the artist.
- Think about longevity and use — will this mural be photographed for marketing? Will it appear on social media, in press coverage, in your annual report? If so, usage rights need to be agreed before work begins. A mural that becomes a brand asset has different commercial terms than one that simply decorates a wall.
The bottom line: the best mural commissions treat the artist as a creative partner, not a supplier. Share your brand story, your space, and your ambitions — and let the artist bring something you couldn't have designed yourself.

FAQ
Mural painting is typically priced by square metre or day rate. Day rates range from €600 to €2,000+ depending on the artist's profile and experience. Square metre pricing starts at around €60 for simpler work and can exceed €500/m² for detailed, high-complexity pieces or ceiling murals. Commercial projects may include additional fees for usage rights, exclusivity, and marketing use. Materials, scaffolding, and travel costs are usually calculated separately. We recommend requesting a detailed quote based on your specific wall size, location, and brief.
While graffiti artists typically come from a street art background, mural painters are a broader category. On our platform, mural painters include graphic designers, illustrators, and fine artists who have developed the skills and experience to work at large scale — on walls, facades, and interior spaces. Many have no graffiti background at all. What unites them is their ability to translate a concept or brand identity into a large-format visual that works architecturally and communicates effectively. For corporate projects, this distinction often matters — a graphic designer turned muralist may be better suited to brand-led work than a traditional graffiti artist.
Professional mural painters work across a wide range of surfaces — interior walls, exterior facades, glass, concrete, brick, metal, and even floors. The surface type affects the preparation required, the materials used, and the longevity of the finished work. Our artists assess the surface as part of the briefing process and advise on the best approach for your specific space. Exterior murals require weather-resistant paints and sometimes a protective varnish coating for durability.
Timeline depends on the scale and complexity of the work. Smaller interior murals up to 10 m² can be completed in one to two days. Medium-sized projects typically take three to five days. Large-scale exterior murals and facade paintings can take anywhere from five days to several weeks. We recommend building in time for a concept and approval phase — typically one to two weeks before the painting begins — especially for corporate projects where brand sign-off is required.
Yes — and this is where our curated mural painters particularly excel. Many of the artists on our platform have professional backgrounds in graphic design, illustration, or art direction, and are experienced in working within brand guidelines, colour systems, and visual identities. We recommend sharing your brand guidelines, preferred colour palette, and any visual restrictions upfront. The best results come from a clear framework combined with creative latitude — allowing the artist to bring their own style while staying true to your brand.
Copyright of the artwork remains with the artist by default. For commercial use — including photography of the mural in marketing materials, social media, or advertising — usage rights should be agreed in the contract before work begins. Rights can be granted as a one-time licence or a permanent transfer depending on your needs. Our artists are experienced with commercial agreements and will advise on appropriate terms for your project.
Yes — many mural painters on our platform are skilled at translating digital artwork, illustrations, or graphic designs into large-format painted works. If you have an existing design you want reproduced at scale, or a digital concept that needs interpreting for a physical surface, we can match you with an artist whose style and technical skills align with your vision. Provide the reference files and dimensions as part of your brief.
The most common locations for corporate mural commissions are office interiors — particularly reception areas, meeting rooms, canteens, and collaborative spaces. Retail environments, showrooms, and pop-up spaces are also popular, as are exterior facades for brand visibility and urban presence. Murals are increasingly used at events and brand activations as live-painted installations. Our artists work across Europe and internationally — location is rarely a limiting factor.
The most effective briefs include: the dimensions and location of the surface, reference images or mood boards showing the visual direction, your brand guidelines or colour palette, the intended audience and purpose of the mural, and your timeline and budget. You do not need to have a finished concept — many clients come with a feeling or a brand story they want to tell, and the artist develops the concept from there. The clearer your objective, the better the outcome.
Our mural painters work across Europe and internationally. Travel and accommodation costs for out-of-region projects are typically factored into the project quote. For large-scale or long-duration projects, many artists are happy to travel — particularly for well-briefed, creatively interesting commissions. If you have a specific location in mind, share it in your brief and we will match you with artists available and willing to travel to your project site.
