Expert tip

Hiring graffiti artists made easy
Expert tip
quotes quotes
It's not always easy for companies and agencies to find the right graffiti artist for a commercial project — especially when brand identity, deadlines, and usage rights are involved.

My tip: the clearer the brief, the better the result.

My 3 recommendations for a successful graffiti project:

  1. Define the surface clearly — dimensions, location, surface type (interior or exterior, material, condition). Photos help enormously and save time during briefing.
  2. Establish the visual framework — do you have brand guidelines or a colour palette? Should the artist develop their own concept or execute an existing design? The more context you provide, the more targeted our matching will be.
  3. Clarify budget and usage rights upfront — commercial projects often include additional fees for marketing or media use. More information on costs can be found in our FAQs below.
The bottom line: good preparation leads to faster proposals, fewer revision rounds, and better results — for everyone involved.

FAQ

The most frequently asked questions about hiring graffiti artists

How much does a graffiti artist cost?

Graffiti artists typically charge either by square metre or by day rate. Day rates range from €600 to €2,000+, with rates for well-known artists going significantly higher. Square metre pricing starts at around €60 for simpler work and can exceed €500/m² for detailed pieces or ceiling work. Commercial projects may include additional fees for marketing use and usage rights. Material costs, scaffolding, and travel are usually calculated separately.

Is graffiti bad for the environment?

It depends on the materials used. Conventional spray cans are not the most eco-friendly option in terms of production, use, and disposal. However, water-based paints and alternatives such as moss graffiti exist. Some artists now work with climate-positive paint enriched with titanium dioxide particles, which creates photocatalytic air purification. We recommend discussing sustainability options directly with the artist — many are well-versed in eco-conscious approaches.

How long does graffiti last?

The durability of a graffiti artwork or facade painting depends on several factors — the quality of the paints used and the condition of the surface are the most critical. Professionally executed works can last several years. Exterior works may benefit from a protective varnish coating to extend longevity.

How do I find a graffiti artist near me?

On our platform you can enter your city or location in the search and receive graffiti artists sorted by distance to your project site. All artists on our platform are vetted and have demonstrated experience with professional commissions — making it easy to find the right artist for your project.

What types of street art are there?

The most recognised form of street art is the mural — large-scale paintings on building facades. Stencils are smaller and created by spraying over a template. Cut-outs are motifs printed and pasted onto surfaces. Paste-ups use glue to apply posters to walls. Other forms include sticker art, ad-busting (modifying or replacing advertising), and urban knitting. For commercial projects, murals, tape art, and 3D street art are among the most popular formats.

Can I hire a graffiti artist for commercial projects and brand activations?

Yes — many of our graffiti artists have extensive experience with commercial commissions for brands, agencies, and companies. This includes office and retail wall design, live painting at corporate events, outdoor advertising, and brand activations. Commercial bookings may involve additional terms for usage rights and exclusivity, which are agreed directly with the artist.

What does the process of working with a graffiti artist look like?

The process begins with an enquiry through our platform describing your project, the surface, and your vision. The artist responds with a proposal and initial ideas. Once the concept, timeline, and budget are aligned, a contract is signed. Depending on the project scale, a concept phase with sketches or designs follows before execution begins.

How long does a graffiti commission take to complete?

Timeline depends on the size of the surface and the complexity of the design. Smaller works up to 10 m² can be completed in a single day. Medium-sized wall designs typically take two to five days. Larger murals and facade paintings require anywhere from five days to several weeks depending on scope and complexity. For live events, the artist creates the work on-site during the event itself. We recommend booking early — especially for commercial projects with fixed deadlines.

Who owns the rights to a commissioned graffiti artwork?

Copyright of the artwork remains with the artist by default. For use of the work in marketing materials, on social media, or in advertising, usage rights should be agreed in the contract before work begins — either as a one-time licence or a permanent transfer. Our artists are experienced with commercial agreements and will advise on the appropriate terms for your project.

Should I give the artist a detailed brief or allow creative freedom?

The best results come from combining both: a clear objective and defined framework — paired with genuine creative freedom for the artist. Share your brand values, desired feel, and any restrictions, while leaving room for the artist to bring their own style and signature to the work. The artists on our platform are curated and experienced in working with brands and marketing strategies. An added benefit: when artists find their own creativity reflected in a commission, they often share the result on their own channels — generating additional organic reach for your brand. The best projects are ultimately a true collaboration between brand and artist.
